Flintknapping is of course the process of flaking stone to make tools. The term flintknapping includes a wide variety of lithic types, not just flint. Obsidian, chert and other rocks can all be knapped like flint. But there is another material that can be flaked predictably to create a sharp edge: glass. We think of making shapes from glass by cutting or casting it, but not striking it. So here is one way of shaping glass using percussion.....
