Robben Ford - "Lovin' Cup" (Live at the 2016 Dallas International Guitar Show)

Lovin' Cup - performed by Robben Ford at the Dallas International Guitar Show Robben Ford (guitar & vocals), Aram Doroff (bass), Bobby Sparks II (organ), Mike Gage (Drums) _____________ Robben Ford Robben Ford was born in 1951 into a very musical family. Prior to joining the army his father Charles was a country and western singer and guitarist and his mother sang and played piano. When he was 10 he began to play an instrument for the first time, the saxophone. At thirteen he taught himself to play guitar after being inspired by The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Soon after he began attending shows by artists such as Albert King, B.B. King, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin. He developed a love of jazz when playing saxophone and that stuck with him as guitar became his primary instrument. He started a band with his brothers named after their father. “The Charles Ford Band”. They toured as the band for Charlie Musselwhite, a Chicago harmonica player. Eventually he caught the attention of Jimmy Witherspoon, a well-known blues singer, who invited ford to join his touring band. While touring with him, he was spotted by band members of The L.A. Express who were preparing to go on tour with Joni Mitchell. They asked Robben to join them, which led to him playing with the group and Mitchell for two years. He then was asked to join George Harrison on his Dark Horse tour. Ford was approached by Steeley Dan in 1977 to record the guitar solo for the song “Peg”, although they used a take by Jay Graydon in the end. In 1979 Ford recorded his first solo album, The Inside Story with his band the Yellowjackets. In 1986 he toured with Miles Davis. In 1992 He put together a band called the Blue Line which saw him return to a focus on the blues. He recorded three records with the group before disbanding it and focusing on solo work, including one record where he was backed by Keith Richard’s rhythm section. In more recent years not only has he continued to record and release new music, but has added teaching others to play guitar to his accomplished career. Ford has been awarded four Grammys and was selected by Musician magazine as one of the “100 greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century”. _________________ Please leave a comment below with your thoughts.
