When your ex is not responding to you, there is an emotional reason for that. Are they holding on to pain and hurt from the breakup? Are they concerned that things will be awkward between the two of you? Are they worried that you are more attached to an outcome of getting back together than you are to actually connecting with them and listening to them? If any of these are what is going on, then you will need to first start by addressing where your ex is at emotionally. There is no avoiding the elephant in the room, so you might as well directly address it. This will give your ex permission to open up and talk about what is really going on. Oftentimes people will simply try to connect with their ex by pretending as if nothing has happened, sending a simple or innocent text message. And that can sometimes work out well. But if your ex is still holding on to pain and hurt, then they may not respond to you. Directly address that first and foremost. Secondly, take a look at your message. Is there anything in the message that might be keeping your ex from feeling comfortable responding? Is the message too relationship-focused? If so, then it may be sending a message to your ex that you are more invested in getting back together and not interested in actually listening to them and hearing them out.
