Lily the Rescue Bengal Recovering after a Traumatic Encounter with ELURA, Elancos Appetite Stimulant

It's been a horrible few days. Today is May 30th. A week ago, Lily seemed a little listless, low energy and lethargic. She asked to go into her room where she stayed all day, mainly sleeping in her covered bed. I went to replenish her food on the evening, and she was NOT well. She had pee'd outside the box on the pad and there was blood in it. She wouldn't eat.. and was VERY hot. With my concern rising, I knew that with NO emergency vet around here (there is a service 2 hours' drive away), we would be caring for her over the weekend.. AND Monday was a holiday, so we would have to keep her going until Tuesday morning. There was obviously SOME sort of infection.. not urinary as her urine was odorless.. zero sign of crystals.. I made up Amoxycillin 50 mg, twice daily. We syringed my home-made Kefir with a 1/4 VISBIOME probiotic, adding Milk Thistle too. We cooled her with a fan, and helped her to the litter box where the bloody pee continued. She was NOT getting enough fluid, so Sunday we started s/c Ringer's Lactate and started to syringe feed her. Trust me, I would rather do this stuff with a 30 lb Bobcat.. can this kitty FIGHT! I also hated to stress her more, but these things must be done. A couple drops Medterra CBD tincture helped calm her down. I also gave her Gabapentin, as I wasn't sure if she was in pain.. we had the liquid left over from Donald who recently had a nasty infection. By the time we got her into the vet this last Tuesday, I could see Bilirubin in her urine but the whites of her eyes were clear. The vet found her temp was down a little from the 106F, but still 105F. He spotted jaundice in her ears. With her colouring I missed that! He immediately suspected Bobcat Fever.. this did NOT sit well with me, as she has been a 100% inside cat for 6 months, and was first seen mid-winter in the snow in frigid conditions. Not too many TICKS around.. yes, I knew she was VERY sick.. the bloodwork was at least a partial indicator for Bobcat Fever, but I felt we had something else going on.. on X-Ray, one kidney was enlarged but no stones.. urinalysis revealed +2 for blood, but NO crystals, casts etc. or Protein/Glucose. Vet started her on IV fluids (they use a solution which includes B Vitamins) plus AZITHROMYCIN, and said he would order in an anti-parasitic. I took her blood results home with me. The pattern. The anemia, the LOW Lymphocytes, the HIGH Neutrophils? Liver enzymes were low end of normal.. the jaundice was from Hemolysis, not liver issues.. I lay there Tuesday night with my brain running non-stop. Now, the Holy Spirit got to work until He was burning a hole in my head.. saying "CHECK POOKY'S BLOODWORK".. Pooky, of course, DIED of FIP last year but I kept all her bloodwork. I was up at 7.30, printing her CBC and Chemistry etc off.. and it was the IDENTICAL pattern to Pooky's last bloodwork, 4 days before she died! Doggone it.. Lily has FIP!! The meds from FIP Treatment USA on Facebook had SAVED Ollie's life, then I used the SAME drug on Willow after HER belly started filling up.. and now, I was going to use that very same drug.. MOLNUPIRAVIR .. from my stash, and start Lily on it! I hastily dissolved enough for a 2-week (oral) supply for Lily, grabbed the first dose and we took packets of Churu push-ups to feed her at the vet. When the tech left the room, I quickly administered the first dose of Molnupiravir. Of course she fought us all the way! BUT I was 1000% certain now that this was FIP.. they had a bowl of Prescription Purina down.. I could SMELL that revolting concoction.. no wonder Lily wouldn't TOUCH it! She DID lick up a couple of the Churu sticks, and I felt we had now started to go in the right direction. My vet was on his day off, so I collared a smart vet tech who understood bloodwork. She looked and totally agreed with me.. EVERY FIP Marker was THERE!! I had contacted a European consortium of researchers to get the data I needed to confirm FIP, and so I cancelled the $250 antiparasitic.. in the evening we went back and I gave her the second dose of the FIP drug. Next morning I went to the vet, armed with the info I needed HIM to see, proving that this was NOT Bobcat fever.. basically she should have been DEAD already! I love our vet.. a good Christian man, but I asked him how long the incubation time after a cat got infected. He gad no idea. I let him know it was 5-14 days, and after symptoms appeared, death was certain in 5- 7 days, and that Lily had NO way of getting infected as she had been indoors for 6 months. I told him it was FIP, and what I had already started treatment. He discharged us with the antibiotic and ELURA.. and I nearly LOST my baby after ONE dose.. she collapsed 20 mins after administration, howling horribly.. she was bradycardic.. just 80 bpm.. we phoned the vet and he was SHOCKED. The Rep had told him it was safer than a topical gel. Lily started arrythmias and I was afraid she would arrest on me. Thank GOD with nursing I got her back!
