COUNTRY: Lynn Anderson / It Makes You Happy / Chart 59-1010 / 1967

Lynn René Anderson was the singing daughter of Country singers and songwriters Liz and Casey Anderson. Born in Grand Forks, ND, on September 26, 1947, she grew up in Northern California, first entering the Nashville studios in October 1965, within days of her mother’s own recording debut. Lynn, aged 18, recorded for the Chart label, going on to duet with her mother on several releases and record many of Liz’ compositions. In fact, six of Lynn’s first ten recordings were written by her mother: “For Better or for Worse,” “In Person,” “Ride, Ride, Ride,” “If I Kiss You (Will You Go Away),” “Then Go,” and “Keeping Up Appearances.” In addition to her singing career, Lynn was a lifelong competitive equestrian, participating in racing, cutting, showing and breeding Quarter Horses. In 1970, Lynn recorded and released her biggest hit, Joe South’s composition “(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden,” for which she won the Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Female. Lynn Anderson recorded regularly though the 1970s, and intermittently for the next few decades, including a Gospel album, “Bridges,” cut shortly before her death on July 30, 2015.
