"Not Like Other Girls" - the Culture of Internalised Misogyny | Antonina Stępak | TEDxYouth@2SLO

Who are the "Not Like Other Girls” girls? And why do they feel the need to detach themselves from other women like that? Antonina Stępak will explain why this phenomenon exists, what it says about our society, how it is inherently connected to internalised misogyny, and what we can do to stop it. My name is Antonina and I am 14 years old. I am passionate about political science, literature, and music. I have always been interested in social issues and the subject of my TEDx talk is very personal to me. Internalised misogyny is something I had experienced myself. The "Not Like Other Girls" Phenomenon, which I will be discussing in my talk, is very present in our culture, and it severely affected how I saw myself in my early years and how I interacted with my peers. When compare my younger self to the young girls today I see how little society has changed, and how much change we still need to make to defeat limiting societal standards and give the next generation equal chances regardless of gender.
