Full Tour of Maya Key Private Island Retreat in Roatan Honduras

On our western Caribbean cruise vacation, we booked the “Maya Key Private Island Retreat” excursion direct with Royal Caribbean for its stop in beautiful Roatan, Honduras. A free water taxi docked within the cruise port took us over to Maya Key in only about 6 minutes. Once on the island guests could wander the island viewing various exotic animals (parrots, monkeys, jaguar, crocodile, sea lion, and more), select a beach chair in the shade or relax by the ample sized resort pool. Included in our admission to Maya Key was a catered Caribbean cuisine lunch. In my opinion the food was ok, not great. The island also featured a gift shop, bar and a Mayan Interpretation Center and Ethnic Honduran Art Exhibit Center. Although planes would fly really close to the island on their way to land nearby, no one (including myself) seemed to mind as it wasn’t too frequent and frankly kind of interesting to see them fly so close to you. The island is very clean with no trash to be found. The staff is friendly, the gift shop prices are reasonable and the beaches have ample seating with shade. Overall, our experience was very positive and we’d certainly be willing to revisit.
