Rainbow Trail Salida Colorado on Dirt Bikes and Mountain Bikes! Come along with us for a ride on the Rainbow Trail in Salida Colorado! Let me be the first to say that I am a mountain biker and have probably mountain biked a fair bit more that I have ridden dirt bikes. There was a common theme on this ride, as there often is when we come across mountain bikes on the trail. You can tell quite quickly and easily that the mountain bikers are in shock that we are on the trail, or they are just annoyed that we are on "their" trail. I can't tell you how many times someone in our groups has had an experience where a mountain biker or hiker either blocks the trail or asks us to stop to let us know that dirt bikes are not allowed on this trail. After a discussion and showing them on either CO Trex or Avenza, we are able to educate them that dirt bikes are in-fact allowed on "this" trail. It's unfortunate really, because dirt bikes and mountain bikes are so similar, and the feeling that mountain bikers are after are readily available with far more frequency than they ever could imagine. I've had mountain bikers who switched to dirt bikes tell me that "this is the feeling I've always been after." There is this common theme amongst mountain bikers that I've known that "they're" the motor, and why would they want to miss out on a great workout just to ride a dirt bike? If only they would give it a try! Dirt bikes are beyond a great workout! I love both of the sports, but there is no comparison to how much more fun I think dirt bikes are! The amount of distance you can cover in a day on a dirt bike alone is a game changer! So, if you've taken the time to read this and have never given a dirt bike a try, do yourself a favor and go for it! It's beyond fun!! Also, we are always looking to keep the peace out there with those enjoying a different activity than we are, and we'd love the same! What you're doing out there is no more important than what we're doing out there, and visa-versa.
