Kids Art Project - Wayne Thiebaud Inspired Food Still Life

This is a video I made for my students to teach them a little bit about Wayne Thiebaud and demonstrate a fun drawing project making a still life drawing with food as our subject matter. I know there are plenty who would disagree but I categorize Thiebaud as a Pop Art painter because while his work is not as loud or hard edged as typical Pop Artists, and he draws from observation rather than from mass media images, his subject matter tends to be iconic American diner food. It has a different tone than a lot of pop art, but it is often a more calm and serene look at food items that are a part of the common culture and for that reason I consider his work to be Pop Art. In this project, my students are specifically focusing on strategies to make a drawing look 3D showing multiple sides to the form and focusing on capturing shadows on and around the object.
