The personal statement is one of the most important parts of the application and sometimes the first impression an admissions committee gets of you as an applicant. Writing a personal statement should be a long, thoughtful, and reflective process. I believe it should be the first part of your application you start, long before you even start studying for the MCAT. When I say "start," that doesn't necessarily mean getting "pen to paper," but it means starting the process of reflecting on why you want to be a doctor. This process should hopefully be inspiring to you and remind yourself why you are putting in all the work. This isn't a how to write the personal statement as in telling you to format it this way, or use quotations, or have a catchy opener. It's a process of how to write the best personal statement you can by truly reflecting on your life and why you are applying to medical school.
