Is internal growth & a new coach ENOUGH for the Cavaliers to keep pace in the Eastern Conference?

Is the hire of Kenny Atkinson and the extension of Donovan Mitchell, have the Cleveland Cavaliers done enough that enough to keep pace and/or pass the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, or Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference? T The answer might lie in the improvement of Evan Mobley by making him a shooting big. Trading Darius Garland would change things too. Can two bigs work in today’s NBA? “The league is changing, right? The league is changing fast. It’s a faster league, there’s no doubt about it. I will say our kind of unique situation here, we’ve got two bigs that are fast. They’re just not big guys. Knowing Jarrett really well, he can really get up and down. Evan is a 400-meter sprinter. He’s got incredible speed for his size. I will say my experience in Golden State, I think it’s going to really help. We played Draymond (Green) and (Kevon) Looney together a lot. We won a lot of series like that. Knowing how to use those two is going to be important because we want to keep that defensive identity and we want to keep that base. That’s so important. Part of my job is going to figure out how we can get those guys, that group with the two bigs, to be more efficient offensively.” How he plans to make the pieces fit: “Well, that’s what they’re going to pay me for here. You have four All-Stars. Evan will be an All-Star. I think we all know that. You’ve got four All-Stars and we’ve got to make it work. That’s part of the reason I’m here. I’ve already spoken to Darius (Garland) multiple times and I am just a huge fan. I can’t tell you how many times he destroyed us when we were in Brooklyn. He’s obviously a great shooter, an underrated passer, so it seems like something that when you have multiple ball handlers, and again I’ll hark back to my Golden State experience, Steph (Curry) and Jordan Poole, you have a lot of pieces, but the talent’s there so it’s just we’re going to work on tweaking this where we maximize those guys. I just love both of ‘em together quite honestly.” On the plan for Evan Mobley’s evolution: “He’s so multi-talented. That was a big part of our discussion during the process, how to get him to the next level. I think first of all, he’s 22 years old so he’s just naturally going to grow. That’s exciting just with the talent. But I do think we can schematically get the ball in his hands more quite honestly. It’s going to be in multiple ways. I think when you have a guy that versatile, it could be him in transition bringing the ball up, it could be him handling in a five out situation or him handling in pick and roll. I think there’s creative things we can do to help him. I know I’ve spoken with him, and he’s excited about it, but there’s definitely just his general usage I think can go up and we have to figure out the best positions to put ‘em in. I can’t wait to get on that task. I know that’s a big, big part of us taking that next step.” FANATICS LINK: www.fanatics.com/UCSS Subscribe and ring the bell for the latest talk about the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians, Cleveland Cavaliers and Ohio State Buckeyes: https://bit.ly/ucss_subscribe Follow on Twitter: @ultclesports Watch live on YouTube 11 a.m.-1 p.m. weekdays on YouTube and WKYC+ on your Roku and Fire TV apps!
