Steam Locomotives Recreated

For special commemorations, photo charters and just for fun, many locomotives that met with the cutters torch have been recreated in preservation. We take a look at Bulleid Light Pacifics 34052 Lord Dowling (34046 Braunton) renamed to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, 7800 Torquay Manor & 7825 Lechlade Manor (7822) recreated for a Llangollen 1960s Weekend, 6141 (4141), 5026 Criccieth Castle, 4492 Dominion of New Zealand (4494 Bittern), 44860 (45337), 45066 & 45049 (45428), 52345 (52322), 1251 Oliver Bury (61264), 80007 (80072), 75001 (76079), 80096 (80072), 80043 (80072), Hurricane (Whiston) and NCB 35 (65). Some recreations are more appropriate than others, while there were differences in Jubilees 45699 Galatea and 45562 Alberta, Galatea contains many parts that where originally on Alberta. 48121 (48624), 44814 (45305) and 47203 (47406) all recreated at the Great Central Railway's Woodford Halse Commemorative Gala. 34098 Templecombe (34053 Sir Kieth Park) all recreated at a West Somerset Railway S&D Celebration. Two locomotives that feature are 5775 (7714) and 92220 Evening Star (922124), while both locomotives survive into preservation with both out of traffic (the 9F in particular unlikely to ever steam again), the opportunity was taken to renumber the Pannier for the Worth Valley's 50th Anniversary Gala, while the opportunity was taken to renumber 92214 as the last 9F on a series of occasions, with the 9F already repainted into Brunswick Green, a livery only carried by Evening Star. Last but by no means least is Ffestiniog Railway's Single Fairlie Taliesin. A complete new build recreating a long scrapped locomotive. While just missing out on my 21st Century Locomotives special (    • Steam Locomotives of the 21st Century   ) being completed in 1999. www.preservedrailway.co.uk (C) Lee Andrew Davies 2020
