8-Step Process to Review Your Investment Portfolio and Increase Returns | Part -1 | ETMONEY

It’s hard to argue that reviewing one’s investment portfolio is important. And that’s because if left unchecked your investments can very quickly deviate from your original intentions. But the real question is - how does one go about this task of reviewing an investment portfolio? In this 2 part video, we put forward 8 essential steps that every investor should follow to review their portfolio. These eight portfolio review steps, if followed, can go a long way in not only keeping the performance in line with your expectations but also opening up some interesting financial opportunities that were previously hidden from our sight Link to Part 2 :    • 8-Step Process to Review Your Investm...   Topics Covered: 00:00 - INTRODUCTION 00:54 - STEP 1: GATHER EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE 01:48 - STEP 2: SET YOUR EXPECTATIONS 03:54 - STEP 3: ASSESS YOUR PORTFOLIO RETURNS 08:06 - STEP 4: STUDY THE CONSTITUENTS 13:10 - SUMMARY 👉 STEP 1: GATHER EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE This first step in any review process is to track down every piece of financial asset you hold .. and to list them in one place. The idea here is to look at one’s portfolio as a whole and not merely as individual parts 👉 STEP 2: SET YOUR EXPECTATIONS Two approaches can be considered. Approach 1 - The first one is a simple risk profile-based thumb rule which says if you are a conservative investor then you estimate an 8% return. if you are balanced, then 10% .. and if aggressive, then 12 or 13% Approach 2 - A second approach one can consider is the inflation + x method .. which, as the name suggests is about adding a premium to the long-term inflation rate. 👉 STEP 3: ASSESS YOUR PORTFOLIO RETURNS The third step in your portfolio review is to know how the portfolio has performed as a whole. One of the bigger advantages of doing this step is that it allows investors to make comparisons with the right benchmark instead of randomly using something like the Nifty 50. And that reason that’s important is because most investors have a mix of assets in their portfolio ranging from equities to debt to gold and even within equities there are distinct classifications like large caps, mid caps, small caps and international funds 👉 STEP 4: STUDY THE CONSTITUENTS 4.1 Divide the portfolio into a core and satellite portfolio Core - These are assets that will take care of your financial well-being for the next 5, 10, 20 years Satellite - experimentation or fun portfolio 4.2 The next part of the constituent review is to have a better understanding of the assets or schemes you are invested in, from the perspective of their benchmarks. 4.3 Tracking the right metrics - A fund’s performance can be evaluated based on the alpha, the Sharpe ratio, and the Sortino ratio while the right measures of a fund’s volatility are its beta and standard deviation. Lookout for funds that give you a high alpha, a high Sharpe Ratio, and a high Sortino ratio … and don’t worry that much about the standard deviation and beta 👉 Resources: How to Measure Mutual Fund Risk | Alpha, Beta, SD, Sharpe, R-squared, Sortino-   • How to Measure Mutual Fund Risk | Alp...   #ETMONEY #Portfolioreview #mutualfunds #learnwithETMONEY 👉 To invest in Direct Plans of top Mutual Funds for free, download the ETMONEY app: https://etmoney.onelink.me/unJQ/5ca1a... 👉Read more such informative articles at https://www.etmoney.com/blog 👉 Follow us on: ► Facebook:   / etmoney   ► Twitter:   / etmoney   ► Instagram:   / etmoney_official   ► LinkedIn:   / et_money
