[作画 MAD/AMV] Kai Ikarashi (五十嵐海) Sakuga

Ikarashi is an animator trained in Trigger, he developed as one of the followers of the Kanada school but his style can be quite different from the purest followers of Kanada, such as Akira Amemiya. He received training from You Yoshinari during the production of Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade, receiving quite a few corrections on how movement should be represented on characters so that it feels natural. He also participated as Animation Director in Promare, so he was probably able to see the Neo Kanada style up close and be influenced a bit. His style is quite peculiar in terms of the structure of his characters, specifically the shape of the head and eyes when he leaves the model sheet, because his style is too marked, generating elongated and pointed faces with very large and angular eyes. Like the vast majority of Kanada's followers, Ikarashi is highly skilled at depicting the dynamic pose-to-pose movement characteristic of the Kanada school, using many deformations, angular shapes and interesting perspectives in which he exaggerates the proportions by representing the lengthening of the body parts according to the perspective he wants to capture. His effects were initially heavily influenced by Kanada's, but over time he acquired a unique way of representing them. These are basically Kanada effects but by adding a lot of spikes on the outlines and making the stroke dirtier it makes a pretty noticeable difference. When the action gets closer to the camera he often uses a lot of perpendicular speed lines, adds more lines perpendicular to the object's outline, does exaggerated smears (sometimes splitting the object into parts) and applies blocky shading making all this together generate a feeling of dirt, dynamism and expressiveness. Despite all of the above, he has also shown signs of being able to draw movement that goes more towards the Realistic school, with a movement that feels quite natural in the characters, well representing the weight of the characters and the movement of clothing, in addition to be able to combine all this with his aggressive style but without going too far from the model sheet. His style in its entirety is extremely striking, so when he is assigned the task of Storyboarder and Animation Director, he imposes all his visual aesthetics, generating unique episodes that easily stand out from the rest of the program. Some examples of this are SSSS.GRIDMAN #09, SSSS.DYNAZENON #10 and Cyberpunk Edgerunners #06, which are recommended to understand Ikarashi's style. Sakuga (作画) literally means drawing. It is not something specific like "super spectacular animation", but the term is used to define a well animated sequence and that's it, good animation. Animation is fundamentally movement, so a sequence with good movement is already good animation / sakuga, the effects and uses of cinematography are only added to the base.
