Breaking the silence around domestic abuse. | Ros Jones | TEDxHolgate Women

With one in three women and one in nine men experiencing domestic abuse in any of its insidious guises, and three women in the UK taking their own life every single week, domestic abuse remains taboo. In her talk, Ros will show how the power of storytelling can help shine a light on domestic abuse, remove the stigma and shame that prevent people from seeking help, and kick-start social change. Ros Jones is a Yorkshire-based business coach and personal development expert, empowering people in business to thrive and live their best lives. Ros is fascinated by the impact of our habitual thoughts on the lives we lead and the results we achieve. Observing the behavioural patterns within her own family while growing up, Ros was inspired to write her first novel, “When I Was A Girl, " published in 2022. The book contains themes of domestic violence and abuse and since its publication, Ros has listened to hundreds of people sharing their stories of domestic abuse with her. This has inspired her to look for ways to raise awareness of this subject. Ros has organised conferences aimed at raising awareness of domestic abuse among business leaders and managers and has worked with the domestic abuse charity IDAS to create the “Yorkshire Businesses Against Domestic Abuse Charter.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
