June Mushroom Hunting in the PNW - Exploring Fungi, Native Plants, & Slugs

In this episode, we'll jump right into Mushroom Foraging with some interesting fungal finds, as well as some of my favorite native plants, including the mycoheterotrophic Pacific Coral Root and a parasitic Groundcone! We'll even observe one of the great decomposers of the forest - the Arion Slug - up close. Whether you're right here in Western Washington State, or in neighboring areas of the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Northern California, British Columbia) you're likely to be observing a lot of these same specie in a forest near you. And even if you're further away, I hope you'll find plenty of great stuff in this video that enhances your next venture into the natural world. Here is some of what you can expect to see in this episode: 00:00 Intro 01:11 Milk Cap (Lactarius Genus) 03:54 Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus Genus) 05:23 Western Panther Cap (Amanita pantherinoides) 06:00 Compressed Elfin Saddle (Helvella compressa) 07:03 Pacific Coralroot (Corallorhiza mertensiana) - an amazing Mycoheterotroph that is a member of the Orchid Family 13:21 Deep Purple Bolete (Xerocomellus atropurpureus) - formerly identified as the Zeller's Bolete 14:35 Vancouver Groundcone (Kopsiopsis hookeri) aka "Small Groundcone" or "Hooker's Groundcone" 19:19 Beautiful Waxy Cap (Hygrocybe Genus) 20:48 Beautiful European Garden Slug (Arion Genus) 24:02 Spring Coral Mycena (Mycena acicula) aka "Orange Bonnet" 24:50 Wolf's Milk (Lycogala epidendrum) 24:59 The Mystery of Dead Moles on the Trail 26:19 Orange Honeysuckle (Lonicera ciliosa) aka "Western Trumpet Honeysuckle" 29:19 Stereum ochraceoflavum 31:29 Crystal Brain Jelly (Myxarium nucleatum) 32:07 Dog Vomit Slime Mold (Fuligo septica) 32:14 Mica Cap (Coprinellus micaceus) 34:39 Honeycomb Coral Slime Mold (Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa) Thanks for joining me out here on the Mushroom Trail!
