A ligature is designed to hold the reed in place on your mouthpiece, and ideally to allow it to seal across the hole while allowing the reed to vibrate freely. A better quality ligature can give you a more free and resonate tone quality, and is definitely worth exploring. Every person's clarinet setup, and desired tone quality, is different. There is no definitive "best ligature" for everyone. I highly recommend that if you have time to try a few different ligatures out, you pick the one that sounds best to you on your mouthpiece and clarinet.
