The other major function that active grille shutters serve is to close and block off air going into the under hood compartment to improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle. Many people will remove or delete the active grille shutters in an effort to be able to bring more constant airflow into the radiator for better cooling or to prevent failure and overheating of their engine.
