Allen Iverson 47-year-old Special: 47 points game vs Boston Celtics in HIS PRIME (2002)

The Over 30 Club convened at the FleetCenter last night, and the meeting turned into a raucous party for a sellout crowd. The two scorers that lead the NBA in 30-point games this season, Celtic Paul Pierce and 76er Allen Iverson, lit up the scoreboard once again. Iverson just did it a little bit better. In Pierce's house, Iverson set a new scoring record for the building with 47 points as the Sixers withstood a furious Celtic comeback to win, 106-90. Even Pierce's 30 points could not save Boston. "I can't win a game by myself," said Pierce, who went 10 of 24 from the field. "I just try to stay within the offense, just do the stuff I've been doing all year, just stay aggressive, go to the basket and try to make things happen. When I see our offense is struggling, I try to make things happen. But we lost the game on the defensive end." Nobody in the building could stop Iverson, but the Celtics could not slow down any of the Sixers early. Philadelphia shot 58 percent in the first half. When the Celtics did tighten the clamps, they trimmed an 18-point Sixer lead to just four with four minutes to play. Eric Williams keyed the run with a steal and a layup with 2:20 left in the third. Antoine Walker, who was held to four points in the first half, followed with a 3-pointer, and the C's were back in business, down just 10 heading into the fourth. The Celtics stayed close, and Iverson helped, missing four straight shots over five minutes of the fourth quarter. A Walker theft of Iverson and a Kenny Anderson jumper closed the gap to 94-90. But Philly had an Answer - Iverson. After Derrick Coleman (11 points, 12 rebounds) hit two free throws and Pierce turned the ball over, Iverson came to life. With just over a minute left, he drove left and pulled up for a 20-foot, off-balance jumper that found paydirt. Philly led by 10 and coasted. "He's so damn fast," said Celtics guard Milt Palacio, who was the most effective in stopping Iverson. "You've just got to use your quickness. I just tried to bother him a little bit, just try to get my hands on the ball. But he's a great player." Pierce hasn't scored 30 points in a game 19 times by accident. He tried to do his part in the marquee matchup. The 6-foot-6-inch forward matched Iverson hoop for hoop at times. He nailed four 3-pointers in the first half. His 24-foot trey with 5:12 left in the second quarter kept the C's within nine points. But 10 points from Iverson down the stretch pushed the lead to double digits at the half. The 76ers' 63 points in the opening half came within two of the season-high for a Celtics' opponent. The Atlanta Hawks scored 65 against Boston in November. Much of the damage came at the hands of Iverson. The Georgetown product torched the Celtics for 27 points in the half on 11-of-18 shooting. With Celtic defenders guarding against the drive, Iverson canned an assortment of jumpers, often freeing himself for the shot with crossover dribbles and up-fakes. He didn't slow down in the second half. "I got some open shots early in the game," said Iverson, who has scored 40 or more points four times this season. "I just didn't want to get into a good rhythm in the first half and not be able to sustain it in the second half. In the fourth quarter, I missed a couple shots, but I didn't get frustrated, and I was able to hit one that really helped us win the game."
