May Flowers. Beautiful Wildflower Meadows, Cottage Garden, Northern Lights and days out.

May was a busy month in many ways. It’s the time of year when everything in the garden and the fields suddenly takes off. The highlight in early May is the cow parsley, which lines all the village lanes and grows throughout our garden, all the pathways become blocked by the beautiful frothy white flower heads. If it rains they become heavy with drops of water that soak you as you brush by them. The buttercups in the fields reach their best towards the middle of the month, joined later by the mauve and purple shades of the grasses and the rust of sorrel. Until this May I had never seen the Northern Lights but due to "favourable cosmic conditions" we were treated to a display, which honestly looks more spectacular when looked at through the camera than it did through the naked eye. The effect in real life was much more ethereal but nevertheless beautiful and very memorable. We had a visit to Shropshire, walking in bluebell woods and on flower bordered lanes, passing by ancient farmhouses and manor houses. A day out at Blists Hill Victorian Town was made even more special than usual by the presence of several teams of heavy horses, drawing carriages and carts around the streets of the small town. They really are beautiful animals and it's incredible to think that, not that long ago there were no tractors and we relied entirely on the power of horses to farm the land and provide food for the nation. Horse power eventually gave way to steam and each year we are visited by traction engines and steam rollers as they arrive for the annual vintage rally in the village. In the evenings after the show they pass us as they make their way to the pub. As always thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed it.
