The Footy Show (AFL) - What A Big 12 Years in Football (2006) - AFL Footy Show

"What a big week in football!" For twelve remarkable years, It was the line that Eddie McGuire used so many times to open another episode of the television phenomenon that was "The Footy Show". Hosted by the controversial Sam Newman and Comedian Trevor Marmalade, "What A Big 12 Years in Football" stands as a fitting farewell to Eddie McGuire's tenue as host of the show as he moved on to his role as CEO of the Nine Network. (A role that he would struggle with.) There are great highlights and jaw-dropping lowlights to be seen here from the twelve years of the show that were manned by McGuire before he came back to try and steer the ship again in 2017 and 2018. (The less said about that the better.) You'll see candid interviews with many of the personalities that made The Footy Show informative, insightful and entertaining including Jason Dunstall, Tim Watson, Doug Hawkins, Shane Crawford and more. You'll laugh, You'll cry, You'll be left shaking your head in disgust at times and you'll be applauding at other times. It's what The Footy Show was. It could be brilliant but it could also be shocking television. There were highs and there were lows (a lot of them containing the ever controversial Sam Newman). But that's what the show was. It was an important show in the history of Sports Television in Australia and that's why it's been uploaded here for posterity. There are a lot of things that the show did that I personally don't agree with and deserve the criticism they get (Ex: The Blackface Incident is frankly unforgivable. It was wrong then and it's wrong now.). but there are a lot of great moments from the show that allowed us to see the players of the AFL in a new light and allowed them to come out of their shells and that in fact was a massive positive for the sport and media landscape as a whole. It's The Footy Show: What A Big 12 Years in Football and it perhaps gives the best look at what the show was like.
