Rebecca from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners took the internet by storm in just a few days. But, do you know why that really is? Cyberpunk: Edgerunners released onto Netflix just a couple months ago this 2022 season, and it’s safe to say the anime took the internet by storm, from beautiful art to intense discussion and analysis. While David and Lucy started the show off, and so got a lot of immediate love, the real favorite character of the anime came to be Rebecca, the short anime girl apparently everyone was waiting for. From her wild side guns blazing, to the softer moments of unrequited love she has, her story intertwines with David and Lucy’s, as well as the wider Cyberpunk world’s, to draw a video essay’s worth of depth from a fairly minor character. While some of the other punks, like Maine and David, embody denial, believing themselves to be special in a cruel world, filling the empty space with cybernetic enhancements, Rebecca comes to embody the opposite: acceptance.
