La Marsellesa Española | La Marseillaise in Spanish

This version of La Marseillaise adapted into Spanish comes from the historical zarzuela of the same name with music by Manuel Fernández Caballero and a libretto by Miguel Ramos Carrión. It premiered at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid on February 1, 1876. This is a version by Miguel Fleta, although there is another version by José Luis Lloret with the same lyrics and by Marcos Redondo with different lyrics. Furthermore, the Anthem of the Socialist Party of Chile is titled La Marseillesa Socialista, although it has completely different lyrics from the two aforementioned versions. As a curiosity, Miguel Fleta had pharyngitis in 1927, which prevented him from continuing to work for a while and which marked the beginning of his decline. As another curiosity, he enlisted in the Falange Española de las JONS in 1936 after meeting Primo de Rivera in a cafe and being convinced by him to become the voice of the Falange. During his political affiliation he recorded songs such as Cara al Sol, which radically contrasts with his other recordings like this one and his version of the Himno de Riego. Translation in English: Let us march sons of the Homeland; a glorious day is shining now! Once again the bloody banner tyrants dare to raise, (bis) Do you hear roaring through the countryside that wild and bold mob? It desires to cut your children's throats to drown our idea in their blood! Prepare your weapon! There is no time to lose! March, march to defend sacred Liberty! (Bis) Behold the hordes of traitors that are going to trample upon our native soil. For whom are those chains that they are wrathfully forging? (bis) They are for you, dear people; see readily such an affront to avenge; may the fury in your chest awaken, seek now victory or death! Prepare your weapon! There is no time to lose! March, march to defend sacred Liberty!
