The Bakhtiyans' wealth and power come from illegal means rather than their investments in Istanbul and Mardin. Big gambling games take place on the family's large farm outside the city. Nadir is Aziz Bakhtiyan's most loyal man, whom he trusts sometimes even more than his family. He lives in the outbuilding of the Bahtiyan mansion with his wife Gönül and his little son Memed.
