I was visiting with this old friend the other day and was blown away anew - at not only how cool this guitar looks and plays, but how musical and authoritative its tone is. It has a JB in the bridge. While a classic, overlook it at your own loss. Effects include an Eventide PitchFactor (with expression pedal), Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork and a Boss DD–500 digital delay. Trying to re-create this song faithfully, including effects, is quite a chore! This take came close. Of course, it is only an impression. The beauty of the song is the fire and creativity of its creator, George Lynch. Thanks for the inspiration over the years. Here’s a breakdown of the effects settings… Note: Time references are relative to this video, NOT the original recording Pitch Fork 1 octave below, blend 25% *Intro riff until drum beat starts in earnest *G#m breakdown when drums stop PitchFactor *Used one setting dedicated to main/“Immigrant Song/Get Smart” theme. Settings: PitchFlex @ + minor third (50/50 mix with original note). Note that it’s a parallel minor third. Nothing diatonic or key-related to it. *Second setting (leveraging the expression pedal) for… *First harmonized fill at 1:40: f# harmonic minor (heel position) at +1/3 *f# minor for last harmonized fill near song’s end at 4:26 (toe position) at +1/3 The Boss DD-500 set to a dotted quarter note at 109 bpm with effect level at 85 (one repetition). This is used after the drums re-engage at the big C#m solo. It’s also used during the haunting sounding, sustained outro.
