Sai Ying Pun is located in the western part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. It is adjacent to the Mid-Levels and Central districts. Sai Ying Pun is one of the earliest developed residential and school areas on Hong Kong Island, with a long history. The government later reclaimed land in the area known as Kennedy Town in the Stonecutters Island, expanding the development. In Cantonese, Sai (西) means "west" and Ying Pun (營盤) means "camp", especially a military camp. It was where the early British military stayed.
