Thunder of The Rock was an amazing airshow they had a heart-pounding capabilities exercise with a pair of A-10 Thunderbolts from the 358th Fighter Squadron at Whiteman, AFB, Missouri, and the Army's Workhorse UH-60 Blackhawks from the Arkansas Army National Guard’s 77th Theater Aviation Brigade at Camp Robinson. The A-10 Worthogs simulated a CAS (close air support) by clearing the airfield of enemy combatants, as an air assault from the UH-60s who inserted an advance element of soldiers (Army Pathfinders) who then led the aircraft from the ground. Then a mass C-130j Super Hercules formation with full-on cargo airdrop. It was cool to witness four heavy equipment simulation loads from the 189th AW aircraft and 40 bundles dropped from the 314th AW demonstrating the container delivery system. Then to top it all off they had over 200 United States Army paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne from Fort Liberty, North Carolina jumped out of five C-130s from the 19th AW to secure the airfield in a small-scale seizure exercise demonstration. During this time, the A-10s will demonstrate close air support for the troops on the ground. These small CAPEX's are very rare and very regional.
