Old English Poetry: The Ruin (Reading)

In this short video I discuss the fragmented Anglo-Saxon poem "The Ruin" from the 8th century Exeter Book, give a reading in Modern English and Old English. Some of my pronunciation may be a touch off! In this video I have not delved into a deeper analysis on the poem - this is because I intend to create an in depth video in the future upon the relationships between the Anglo-Saxons and Romans, and how they might have perceived the ruins that surrounded them in England. Unfortunately, some parts of the manuscript containing "The Ruin" were damaged. In the video, this is represented by elipses. For the English translation of the ruin, I chose to use the fantastic work of Eagles and Dragons publishing, who I feel manages to capture the zeitgeist of the poem very well.
