STUDIO GEAR: Mackie Big Knob Passive setup and demo

Mackie Big Knob Passive #Mackie #BigKnobPassive #PresonusEris CHAPTERS 00:00 - Intro 01:03 - Bunch of gear 01:43 - The volume knob 02:17 - What are these buttons 03:40 - Sped up setup 04:06 - How did I do it 04:38 - Let's hear it 06:17 - Outro If you have watched a previous episode about controlling monitors, I had discussed a hack that didn’t require a monitor controller. You can click here to watch that video. This time, we’ll do the opposite. We’ll do it with a controller, The Mackie Big Knob Passive. I have two audio sources, the Scarlett Solo and the Soundcraft Signature 22, which is my main interface and summing mixer. With the addition of the Eris 3.5, I now have 2 sets of monitors. For all of these to work, I need to manage them properly. The Big Knob can do this nicely. This is just a volume knob with added features that enables you to switch between two sources, a mono button, a mute button, a dim button to quickly duck the volume if you need to take a call or speak to someone, and a monitor select button to choose which set of speakers to listen to. Let’s take a closer look at the back. Here are the inputs and outputs. Input A will be from the Scarlett Solo, Input B will be from the Soundcraft console. Another input accepts a 1/8-inch stereo plug to connect smartphones or other stereo sources. If this is active, it will automatically turn off TRS input B. Output A will go to the JBLs and output B will be for the Eris 3.5. We need 4 pairs of balance cables to connect all of these together. In my case I have 3 pairs of TRS cables. The fourth pair, I use TRS to XLR cables for the LSR305s. It’s time to test the whole rig. This is just a demo about how the Mackie Big Knob so don’t get too caught up with how I miked the test. I just set up a stereo pair of condenser mics, AT2020s, at ear level at my listening position. And yes, you can hear my sonically imperfect room and the A/C too, which I forgot to turn off. Hope you enjoy pushing buttons as much as I do! Thanks for watching! Till next time. Cheers!
