While waiting for Amtrak’s California Zephyr train #5 to arrive at Long Ravine, a horn is heard in the distance coming from downtown Colfax. Moments later, the eastbound California Zephyr train #6 beats its westbound counterpart to the location as it begins its climb up Donner Pass. Soon after the train crosses Long Ravine and over Interstate 80, the westbound California Zephyr #5 arrives as it nears its next station stop in Colfax. As you can see, a tie replacement project was underway at the time of visit in the summer of 2023. 07-03-2023
