Chris Dawson’s daughter gave ‘brave and moving’ address to court in father’s hearing

The sentencing hearing of convicted murderer Chris Dawson began today, two and a half months after the 74-year-old was found guilty of murdering his wife Lynette in 1982. The Australian's National Chief Correspondent Hedley Thomas, who created The Teacher’s Pet podcast investigating the case, said Dawson’s daughter Shanelle gave a “very poignant address” to the court today. “It was a very brave and moving address,” Mr Thomas told Sky News host Chris Kenny. Shanelle is Dawson’s eldest daughter, whom he had with Lynette along with her sister Sherryn. “She spoke about the impact upon her, the ripple effect for her entire family and the way that her own relationships with people have been so adversely affected since her mother disappeared.” Shanelle and Sherryn were raised by their father, who told them “that their mother didn’t love them enough to stay around”. “These very cruel lies, as Shanelle described them, had a profound impact on her and her mental health. “I don’t think there were too many dry eyes in the court.”
