In this video you see a ranking from the worst to the best of all French Eurovision entries. The ranking is based on both placements and amount of points. In the 50s and 60s France and the French language was the most dominant, with four victories in total. In the 70s the UK was the more successful one, but France still achieved many high positions. In the 80s the classic French chanson did not achieve any marvellous results, so in the 90s a reform of the selection was made. France sent experimental genres and sang in other languages than French for the first time. This new wave worked and France was once again a powerhouse. The televoting hit France hard however. In the 2000s they continued sending different genres and artists every year. Several of the songs were considered favourites before the show but flopped: 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2023. Although they showcase their broad musical culture, it seems like the classic chanson is their best recipe for success.
