Driver's Eye View - South Devon Railway (England) - Buckfastleigh to Totnes Riverside

No holiday in the West Country would be complete without a visit to the South Devon Railway, where a little bit of Devon’s history has been captured and beautifully presented for us all to enjoy. It’s lovely to read books and see pictures of quaint little tank engines steaming through glorious countryside with a short rake of chocolate and cream carriages, the South Devon Railway takes those nostalgic images and brings them to life with pretty stations, gleaming locomotives, traditional signals, buildings and water towers all bearing that distinct Great Western Railway appearance. The friendly team at the railway go the extra mile to make sure your visit is a memorable one for all the right reasons, with a café, miniature railway, museum and engine shed at Buckfastleigh, along the way our train stops briefly at Staverton, a perfect recreation of a GWR wayside station, finally we steam into Totnes Riverside station for the Totnes rare breeds farm, the town and mainline station. Take time out from your busy day to enjoy the Devon countryside and River Dart from a point of view passengers rarely see. The railway is a standard gauge line, (1,435 mm - 4 ft 8 1⁄2 in) located in the South, West of England, easily accessible from the A38 Devon Expressway or by main-line GWR trains from London and the West Country, regular CrossCountry trains from the North and Midlands also serve Totnes.
