I think an extremely light ligature can offset resistance elsewhere in the setup. But, like I said in my test of ten R13's, I like a focus shared between all aspects of the setup. And that means, ideally, that resistance is shared too. It's such a personal thing, but I think a good ligature can help one "feel" the sound even in a very loud environment. And a bad ligature can affect your reeds, response, and articulation.
