Peak Rail Heritage Railway in Derbyshire

In this video me and Jon visit Peak Rail in Derbyshire. One of Derbyshire's handful of heritage railways. Peak Rail is a preserved railway in Derbyshire, England, which operates a steam and heritage diesel service for tourists and visitors to both the Peak District and the Derbyshire Dales. The preserved railway line runs from it's base at Rowsley South to the town of Matlock. We take a return trip on the days steam locomotive working to Matlock and Matlock Riverside before having a closer look around Darley Dale station and the railway yard at Rowsley. The railway initially opened as Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midland Junction Railway in 1849 and closed fully in 1968. The line rose again in 1987 when the trackbed was aquired by Peak Rail. It opened to passengers again in 1992. In 1997 it was extended from Darley Dale to Rowsley South and in 2011 it ran into Matlock national rail station. Future expansion plans include running all the way into the centre of Rowsley and then onwards to Bakewell in the Peak District. Beyond there the trackbed turns into the Monsal Trail.
