Queensland Rail's Spirit of the Outback Train at Longreach and Barcaldine.

This is a video of Queensland Rail's Spirit of the Outback long distance passenger train at Longreach and Barcaldine in the Central Western region of Queensland. Longreach is a small outback town of about 3000 people located about 1200km north west of Brisbane in Queensland. The town has become rather tourist oriented in recent years with a number of attractions showcasing the history and life in Outback Queensland. It is also home to the Qantas Museum as the town was the birthplace of Qantas Airlines. A fair amount of this tourist interest comes from those who ride on Queensland Rail's Spirit of the Outback Train from Brisbane to Longreach. The Spirit of the Outback is Queensland rail's last proper train with sleeping and dining carriages and it is extremely popular often being booked out months in advance. The train is diesel locomotive hauled and consists of L series sleeping cars, dining car, lounge car and sitting cars. The train travels from Roma Street Railway station in Brisbane to Longreach twice a week and takes about 26 hours.
