Peelable Auto Paint | Galaxy Themed Chevy Tahoe

Give me space! That's what the owner of this Tahoe told us when asked what color she wants. She wanted a wild galaxy theme liquid car wrap on her Tahoe and I think we delivered. If you are interested in getting your own car done shoot us a message on Facebook or Instagram at DipStickJax or send us an email at [email protected] We washed the vehicle the day before and let it dry overnight. The cleaner the surface, the smoother our peelable paint will lay. I always look for that basketball court sound when I run my hand across the car. That tells me the surface is free of oils and contaminants. We masked up the car using solvent resistant materials such as tape, paper, and plastic. We were sure to leave the chrome trim exposed so that we could black it out. Masking is always the most important part in my opinion. Getting that straight tape edge is the difference between clean separation in panels and overlap of colors. First we are going to put down a black base being sure to use enough product. An SUV this big will require about 7 gallons total in order to have proper protection and peel correctly so we start with about 5 gallons of black base. I'm using a turbine to apply the base here. Once that is applied, we mask up the trim so no pearls or tints get on it. Now it's time for some fun. First we lay a low pigment load of Galactic Colorshift on the whole car just to give the black a little bit of blue/purple space vibe. Then we splattered some glow in the dark pigment on it to act as stars. We just mixed the pigment with some reducer in order for it to stick. The reducer will evaporate leaving little clumps of pigment behind. Then we started pearl bombing the car. We tried to stick to mostly purples blues and pinks with just a hint of gold and green. Every now and then we dusted some reflective flakes over it to act as stars. At first we went pretty sparse like we did on the Lexus a while back but it just wasn't cutting it. I was afraid to cover the car in too much pearl but then I came up with an idea. Basically I would throw handfuls of pearl on the car completely covering the black base then use the air hose to blow off pearls in strategic areas exposing the black again and creating the galaxy look I was going for. After covering the car, the shop, and ourselves in pearls it was ready for a sealing coat of clear base. This would be sprayed on carefully to avoid blowing any more pearl off the car and seal in the design we had made. After we were happy with the design and it was dry, we put down 2 coats of gloss clearcoat and let it sit overnight. I anticipated flowcoating because of the texture that all of the pearls and flakes left behind. The next day we wet sanded the car with 800 grit paper and re-cleared it. This left us with a much smoother surface finish. After about 4 hours the paint was dry and we could unmask! Walking around the vehicle you can see the effect of the colorshifting pearls and flakes transitioning between pink purple and blue. The reflective flakes twinkled in the sunlight illuminating the shadows and creating a starry night backdrop. The glow in the dark pearl came alive in the dim evenings. It really was the best project I have done to date. Luckily the owner thought the same thing and was so happy when she saw it in person. Hopefully we can do more creative projects like this in the future! If you enjoyed this video please leave us a like and comment. It helps out more than you know.
