December 11, 1994 - En route to Tokyo from Manila, the pilots aboard PA 434 are jolted by an explosion. A bomb had gone off in the cabin and the damage is extensive: there’s a two-foot hole in the fuselage and cables linking the cockpit to the ailerons and wing flaps are severed. The flight crew rein in the unwieldy plane and land it safely. One of the passengers, a Japanese businessman, perished in the blast.
