UW Pathology Grand Rounds - Dr. Michael Haffner - Histomorphological Clues in Prostate Cancer

Michael Haffner, MD, PhD Assistant Professor, UW Dept. of Pathology, GU Division Assistant Professor, Fred Hutch, Clinical Research & Human Biology Divisions “Histomorphological Clues in Prostate Cancer: Lessons Learned from Molecular Pathology Studies” Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy in men in the US. Although diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer have greatly improved over the past decade, there is still a lot to be learned about this complex disease. Histomorphological assessment of prostate cancer can provide a unique opportunity to uncover important biological clues. In this seminar, we will review novel insight into prostate cancer biology through the lens of the pathologist and we will explore molecular alterations that contribute to morphological changes that are used diagnostically. After viewing this lecture, attendees should be able to: 1) Understand relevant genomic alterations in prostate cancer. 2) Understand the clonal heterogeneity of prostate cancer. 3) Appreciate the interplay between molecular changes and histomorphologies.
