Today Maria and I are off to visit Mom’s Recipes restaurant in Pilar. Today we’re going to have something different from the usual fish thali. Mom’s Recipes is located ahead of Pilar seminary and Father Agnel college on the Neura road in Pilar in Goa Velha in central Goa. At the Pilar crossing ahead. The left is the road coming from Panjim. Turn right at the crossing, continue straight past Fr Agnel college on the Neura-Old Goa road. One kilometre down this road is Mom’s Recipes. It’s very easy to spot and there is parking right in front of the restaurant. Mom’s Recipes restaurant has given a lot of thought to its decor, and the traditional Goan touch can be seen from the start. We really liked the traditional Goan windows and paintings. But that’s not all. They’ve even created a traditional, old style Goan posro, complete with bananas, eggs and Goa traditional breads. The posro is a display beyond which is a professional restaurant kitchen. The restaurant is a very elegant space celebrating Goan art from azulejo tiles to traditional Goan windows. Mom’s Recipes’ menu is a mix of Goan and regional Indian dishes. We also spotted some Goan feni and urac-based drinks. Today we're having prawn pulao, teesrio sukka, mackerel cutlets and chicken vindaloo. They gave 6 big mackerel cutlets in the portion. The cutlets were crisp and awesome. The tasty cilantro prawn pulao was green with flecks of kothmir (coriander leaves). The teesrio was very good. The chicken vindaloo was also great. In vindaloo, everything is in the taste of the masala. Mom’s Recipes’ masala was beautiful. Mom’s Recipes owner Tanushree Naik Burye and her husband Amit, who is a hotel management graduate, first opened Mom’s Recipe in Verna Industrial Estate 17 years back. That first outlet in Verna is open only for lunch and doesn’t have a bar. We can see how well they have done that they later opened this huge restaurant in Pilar. Tanushree kindly gave us a 15% discount also. Everything whatever we ordered, the chicken vindaloo, the prawn pulao, the teesrio and the cutlet was 10 on 10. Even the tender coconut dessert was too good. The full meal was really tasty and really satisfying. Thanks Jonathon for telling us about Mom’s Recipes.
