BOQUILLAS CANYON Trail Hike & Langford HOT SPRINGS | Big Bend National Park, Texas

Big Bend National Park is one of the top ten largest national parks in the U.S. Given that size, there is plenty to do & see! Today we venture next to the border & visit the remains of an old bathhouse where a natural hot spring bubbles away next to the Rio Grande & hike to Boquillas Canyon. Located within Big Bend National Park are thermal hot springs alongside the Rio Grande. Ancient faults are the reason for these springs having formed millions of years ago. The Langford Hot Springs is one of the more popular springs - so popular, in fact, a settlement was established nearby for visitors to stay at the resort. The area was simply called Hot Springs. Included was a motor court for guests to stay the night, a post office to send mail from, and a bathhouse surrounding the Langford Hot Springs. It is thought that the water, containing calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, sodium chloride, and lithium has healing properties. The temperature of the water emerges at 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The spring is located at the end of a 0.5-mile round trip trail. Boquillas Canyon Trail is a 1.5-mile out and back trail that rises 150 feet. The trail has little shade so it can be quite hot, especially in summer. At the end of the trail is the mouth of Boquillas Canyon where the Rio Grand divides the United States and Mexico. The area is excellent for photography and been includes pre-historic evidence of inhabitants in the region!
