Living with Dignity: Social Justice for Older Adults - Boston College School of Social Work

Boston College School of Social Work held the event, "Justice, Diversity, and Aging: A Conversation for Incoming Students and Faculty" as part of 2013 Orientation. The event explored the social work profession's commitment to social justice and our school's promise to prepare students for empathetic and effective social work practice in a world filled with wonderful and complex diversity. As the academic year begins, incoming students are welcomed into our community's ongoing conversations about power and privilege, race, ethnicity, culture, spirituality, gender, sexuality, disability, and other aspects of a diverse world. IN THIS VIDEO: Professor Kathleen McInnis-Dittrich frames the marginalization of older adults in systems of care and across society as a social justice issue. She challenges us to look further and be bolder in promoting and advocating for the full participation of older adults in society in order to offset the detrimental effects of unequal access to human dignity and to quality systems of care. Kathleen McInnis-Dittrich is Associate Professor; Chair of the Older Adults and Families Concentration; and Teaching Chair at Boston College School of Social Work.
