Temporal variability in species interaction networks, Violeta Calleja Solanas

Seminal works in ecological networks might give the impression that we have reached an excellent understanding of species interactions. However, these interactions are usually considered a fixed property of ecological communities, which is far from reality. Fortunately, long-term studies offer an opportunity to address this simplification. Using well-resolved datasets from different communities, the research undertaken during my postdoc has characterized the changes in interactions, how these affect stability, and the deterministic and/or stochastic drivers affecting temporal changes in the structure of interactions. During my talk, I will present the main results of this work and introduce you to the informational structure—a network representation of how the structure of the possible equilibria of the system varies due to the changes in interactions.
