Night Shyamalan’s 2004 film, The Village, is unfairly criticized for its McGuffin of a twist. However, the acting in the film remains above reproach - 20 years later, I think it’s time for a revisit with fresh eyes and an open mind. I saw this gem in the theatre when it first premiered and it stuck with me. Sure, the twist can be construed as hokey, but you cannot knock the acting delivered by this film's superb cast! William Hurt breaks me, and Joaquin and Brice bring the romance in the most nuanced of ways. There are classically trained performers throughout, and they did their jobs more than admirably. The Village is the 6th film in Shyamalan's filmography, and the 4th in his 4-picture deal with Buena Vista Pictures (preceded by the Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs). It was released in 2004, and made $257 million against a $70 million budget. Side note: My channel is new-ish, and I'm still learning my limitations - as far what YT will let me show and editing techniques - please be patient and kind with me...It's good karma!!
