Gear Checks 101

Hi everyone! How are you all? Today we are talking basics of gear checks and how to do one. Big thanks to The Vision House for helping out with this video! Go check them out if you ever need equipment in Melbourne! www.thevisionhouse.com.au I did want to touch on a few things here that I seem to have brushed over in the video (sometimes I forget stuff). If you feel I've missed something, leave a comment down below!! CHECKING FOCUS: The reason you check at a mid distance like 5ft and a further distance like 10ft or so is to see if the lens holds its accuracy across the board. Sometimes lenses can be accurate at one distance but not at another so that's important to check. The chart that I am using to check focus has patterns and letters on there to determine sharpness and accuracy. The aim is to set your camera at a distance (from the focal plane of your camera) so let's say 5ft from the board. Then when you pull the focus of the lens to the 5ft mark, it should be accurate and provided everything is lined up correctly the focus chart should be sharp. Pull backwards and forwards on the focus ring to determine exactly where it is sharp to your eye. Remember you can use magnify, but be careful if you are using any focus peaking because this may throw you off! If it's not focused while at that mark and you notice it is actually sharp before or after what you set you distance as, Make sure you check that you've actually put the board at exactly the distance you're measuring, double check the focus chart is square on to the camera and check again. But it could be shims on the lens, on the camera (if the camera has shims), the camera sensor moving or even be the elements of glass within the lens malfunctioning. The prep technicians will take the lens away, project it, check the function of it, shim if necessary and return it to you. Once you get it back, recheck it to know it's all fixed. Phew... I think that was everything. I'll probably watch this video for the millionth time and find something else though! Hope you got something from this video and if you have any ideas of things that you want to see in a video, leave a comment below and let me know!
