Wound Dressing - How do transparent film dressings work?

There are a lot of different dressings...simple dressing like gauze but also more advanced dressings. Transparent film dressings are nice for superficial abrasions, first degree burns, skin tears or sutured closures. They let the wound "breath" by allowing gas exchange and are permeable for water! They are impermeable to protein, bacterial or dirt so they help protect the wound.
