HD Panzer II Ausf. F Walkaround at Ft. Benning

This tank was one of my favorites to see from this trip! Check out the info below! ↓ The PzKpf Ausf. F was the last standard variant of Panzer II, produced from 1941 until late 1942. It saw service through to 1943 with reconnaissance units. Weighing in at 9.6 tons, this light tank was powered by a 140 hp Maybach engine to speeds up to 24 mph (40 km/h). Armed with a 2cm KwK30 L/55 main gun and one 7.92mm MG 34, later models were equipped with a 7.5cm Pak40 gun. Manned by a crew of 3, this tank had a maximum range of about 120 miles. Armor thickness ranges from 30mm to 05mm from front to rear of the hull, superstructure, and turret. This tank was part of Panzer-Abteiling 190 (Panzer Unit 190), which was assigned to the German 90th Leichte (Light) Division in North Africa. In the spring of 1943, it was captured by U.S. forces at the Battle of El Guettar. It was then used by the Americans as a driver's trainer, to teach U.S. Soldiers on operating captured German vehicles. Eventually it was sent back to the Ordnance School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. This vehicle currently resides at the National Armor and Cavalry Collection at Ft. Benning, GA.
