The Bluebell Railway - 2019 Branch-line Weekend

This is the weekend the Bluebell Railway shows off its world class collection of vintage and veteran carriages, some of which passed into preservation from the national network, often surviving as maintenance vehicles or grounded bodies used as mess rooms or stores, others survived because they were purchased by private individuals to become seaside holiday homes or garden sheds. The skilled dedication of the carriage repair and maintenance department has turned these often dilapidated, rotten wrecks into “as new” condition. Work to restore these and more carriages can be watched from the viewing platform at the Horsted Keynes carriage works. No rake of beautifully restored coaches would be complete unless headed by one of the superb Bluebell Railway engines. The engines used on the day were the smaller ones, those more likely to have been found on a branch line train in the days of our grandfathers. Those selected would all have been found going about their daily routines in the South of England. Please join me as we sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of steam in the beautiful Sussex countryside on a glorious sunny day.
