Vintage Toolbox Restoration: Restoring a Toolbox and Everything Inside (Full Video)

Yes, I restored nearly 4 dozen tools and the toolbox they came in and it only took me 3 months to do it. A huge thank you to Vevor for sending me an ultrasonic cleaner for free to use for this (and future) project. Catalyst Restorations will always remain transparent in my experiences using this product and any other sponsored products now and in the future. I will never recommend something I wouldn't use myself, safely, every day in my own workshop. __________Timestamps_________ 0:00 - Overview and tool triage 2:06 - Electrolysis of wrenches and wire wheeling 4:05 - Pliers electrolysis and wire wheeling 4:35 - Screwdrivers cleanup 7:22 - Mystery package!!! 8:20 - Re-cleaning wrenches 9:03 - Combination wrenches 10:14 - Box wrenches 11:30 - Punch 12:23 - Files 16:48 - Spatula 17:37 - Soldering iron 21:06 - Tools before and after 21:53 - Toolbox overview 22:21 - Disassembly 24:48 - Paint stripping, brass cleanup, brass plating 31:55 - New handle holes 32:10 - Rust converter 32:35 - Filling in holes and pits 35:22 - Priming and Painting 36:48 - Reassembly 38:21 - New toolbox liner 40:00 - Finished! A huge thank you to viewer @markosterman419 for discovering this was a Ford Model T or Model A running board toolbox! Toolboxes were common to carry around on some of the first cars, since they weren’t nearly as reliable as cars are today - but they were easier to work on than cars today! If you are able to find and send me a key for this lock (it’s a “Standard” brand lock) and it works, I will send you some Catalyst Restorations merch free of charge for your help and post a follow-up video! _____________Ultrasonic cleaner tips and tricks___________ In order of most to least effective as a cleaning agent was Cascade Platinum dishwasher detergent, Finish dishwasher detergent, Arm & Hammer washing soda, and finally regular dish soap. You want to choose a cleaning agent that doesn't bubble - bubbles cut down on ultrasonic wave penetration. Dishwasher detergent is an inexpensive alternative to special ultrasonic cleaner solutions and it's meant to work at warm temperatures - perfect for a heated ultrasonic cleaner. It's also best to not fill the tank directly with an acid, base, or rust remover solution - it will wear away at the liner of the ultrasonic tank. Instead, use 'indirect' cleaning methods where you submerge or suspend another container within the tank filled with water. Do not use thin metal or foil containers, as the ultrasonic waves will tear right through them. Do not use any alcohols or gasolines - they will rapidly vaporize and present a fire and/or explosion hazard. 🌟Get the Vevor 22L Ultrasonic Cleaner here: https://s.vevor.com/bfQxFx 🌟 Explore other Ultrasonic Cleaner options: https://s.vevor.com/bfQsSJ 🌟 Europe site (for our European friends!): https://s.vevor.com/bfQsSW 🌟 Discover Vevor's 2023 Best Sellers: https://s.vevor.com/bfQsS1 Use the code "SAVEMORE5" for an additional 5% discount on any ultrasonic cleaner or any other item on the Vevor website. ______ Social Media ______ Instagram: @catalyst_restorations MERCH SHOP: https://my-store-cae4fb.creator-sprin... #restoration #toolbox #antique
