Full Hike [CC]: Chasing Ten Waterfalls at Silver Falls State Park in Oregon

The Trail of Ten Falls is a National Recreation Trail within Silver Falls State Park (largest in Oregon). Evident by its name, ten featured waterfalls keep the 7.4-mile loop interesting and popular at most times. But, with various trailheads and connecting paths, the hike is accommodative to everyone's schedule. The prime visitation window is either in springs or anytime after substantial rain—when even the reclusive Winter Falls turns ostentatious. And four out of the ten can be walked behind, which permits a strangely meditative feel amongst the chaos of water plunging from great heights. Speaking of which, tallest Double Falls at 178 feet edges out second place, photogenic South Falls by a mere one foot. Then pouring rain came—as it should in the Pacific Northwest. Thus, when returning to film, I was treated to a wildly different experience. Louder, and much more humid. Misty sprays swirled and enveloped me, as though bringing me into another world. I particularly liked Middle and Upper North Falls. The former because it allowed nearly touching the water curtain—but I had to resist per the exposed battery bay on the camera—and an extended walkway around to the other side for quiet, calming observation from afar. Similarly, Upper North Falls was in a sanctuary of its own. Like some kind of movie theater room to watch a neverending spectacle, which I just sat back and enjoyed the show. #Hiking #LeaveNoTrace
